E10 PETROL COMPATIBILITY

From January 1, 2011, unleaded 95RON-E10 petrol containing up to 10% ethanol will become the mandatory regular grade fuel across the European Union.

what is 95RON-E10 petrol?

95RON-E10 unleaded fuel is a blend of petrol which can contain up to 10% ethanol or 22% of ETBE (crude oilderivatives). It has been specially engineered to ensure that your engine operates smoothly.

For many years now, European regulations have allowed up to 5% of ethanol or 15% of ETBE to be incorporated into petrol.

Incompatible Vehicles

Renault engineering has confirmed that all its vehicles with a small number of exceptions marketed since 1997 are E10 compatible:

Laguna II Powered by the 2.0-litre F5R 782 engine (direct petrol injection)

Plus the following models which were marketed between January 1, 2000, and December 31, 2002:

Standard 95RON and 98RON petrol blends with up to 5% ethanol will continue to be sold.

If your vehicle was registered before 1997 or features on the above list, you should continue to use the petrol recommended in their owner's handbook.

 

Next steps

  • The changes only apply to petrol engine cars, so if you have a diesel, then there is no need to be concerned or do anything;
  • If you have a car that was built in 2010 and later, your vehicle will be compatible for use on E10;
  • The majority of vehicles are actually compatible before 2010, but please check the list of incompatible vehicles on the left to confirm.
