Electric Car Grant

The Electric Car Grant is a government incentive designed to make new zero exhaust pipe emission cars more affordable. It provides a discount on the purchase price of eligible fully electric vehicles.

The grant amount depends on the environmental band of the vehicle:

• Band 1: up to £3,750 off the purchase price.
• Band 2: up to £1,500 off the purchase price.

Anyone purchasing a new, eligible fully electric car in the UK can benefit, provided the vehicle meets the scheme’s criteria. The discount is applied automatically at the point of sale — you do not need to apply separately.

To qualify for the Electric Car Grant, cars must:

• Be new M1 passenger vehicles (not used or second-hand).
• Produce 0 g/km tailpipe CO₂ emissions.
• Have an electric range of at least 100 miles (WLTP).
• Be priced under £37,000 (with some variants eligible up to £42,000).
• Come with required warranty cover: at least 3 years/60,000 miles for the car, and 8 years/100,000 miles for the battery or fuel cell.
• Meet electrical safety and sustainability standards.
