Electric vehicle FAQs

What is the difference between an electric car and a hybrid car?

Hybrid car or electric car? What are the differences, and which one should you choose? The choice depends primarily on your daily usage, your driving habits, and your access to charging stations.

What is the difference between the two?

Electric cars run solely on an electric motor powered by a rechargeable battery. It emits no CO₂ or fine particulate matter while driving, making it the least polluting option in terms of actual use.

Hybrid cars, on the other hand, combine an internal combustion engine (usually petrol-powered) with one or more electric motors. It automatically switches between electric, combustion, or hybrid modes depending on driving conditions.

Which solution is best for which use?

A hybrid is a flexible option if you regularly take long trips or don’t always have access to a charging point. It helps reduce your fuel consumption (compared to a ICE car) whilst maintaining a long driving range.

A 100% electric vehicle is ideal for all types of trips, provided you choose a battery that suits your needs and have access to charging (home charging, at work, or on-street charging). In everyday life, electric vehicles offer real benefits:

  • Lower operating costs: with electricity prices that are significantly lower than those of fuel, and simplified maintenance (no oil changes, fewer mechanical parts).
  • A pleasure to drive: quiet, smooth, and with instant acceleration that makes every trip enjoyable.
  • Tangible benefits: purchase incentives and access to low-emission zones (LEZs).
