Electric vehicle FAQs

Are electric vehicles expensive to maintain?

An electric motor is simpler than an internal combustion engine, in that it has far fewer individual parts. For example, there is no need to perform certain maintenance tasks typical of petrol and diesel engines, such as changing the engine oil, servicing the timing belts, or replacing the spark plugs. In addition, electric vehicles do not require emissions testing.

More generally, the motor in an electric car wears out more slowly. However, it is important to have the wear parts inspected: the condition of the brake pads and brake discs, just as with a combustion-powered car, as well as the pressure of the tyres, the steering, the suspension, and of course the battery, which supplies the motor with electric energy.
