Renault 4’s EV hack you’ll wish you knew sooner

Renault UK team - 02/09/2026

Get behind the wheel of Renault 4 E-Tech electric. What do you see? A 10-inch digital display. The electric opening plein sud ® canvas sunroof. Iconic retro-inspired design.

The headline features are obvious. Then there’s the stuff only the experts really know about.

So we asked Renault UK’s EV Product Manager Amy Williams to get her take on the Renault 4 hacks she can’t live without.

The end of range anxiety: Renault 4’s route planner

It’s a feeling both EV drivers and the EV-curious know all too well. Will I have enough charge? Where will I stop? How will I find a charging point?

But what if your car didn’t just have the answers, it had the whole journey planned?  Introducing Renault 4’s route planner, the feature that’s making EV range anxiety a thing of the past.

Accessible through Renault 4’s openR link multimedia system, it does the hard work for you. It tells you where to stop, how long for, and how much to charge before setting off.

At each charging point, it’ll show you the type and number of charging sockets, opening hours, and how to pay. It can even prepare the battery ahead of time, so it’s ready for optimal charging when you arrive.

Ironically, the feature most EV drivers need is the one many miss. For Amy, it’s the ultimate long-distance hack when travelling home from London to Wales, or anywhere else for that matter.

A complete no-brainer. Quite literally, it does the thinking for you.

“As someone who does long journeys every week, honestly, it’s a game changer. It gives me confidence when travelling far and takes any potential complexity out of electric journeys.”

More to love: The best of openR link

Renault 4 is the versatile electric vehicle that adapts to every lifestyle. Equally at home in the city as it is on longer journeys, it’s designed with practical, clever tech that’s easy to live with and even more fun to drive.

So it’s no surprise openR link is designed to work like a smartphone: All your favourite apps. Personalised shortcuts. And the tech you need to stay connected.

All it takes is signing into your Google account through openR link. No phone pairing. No extra steps.

“It’s customisable, fast, continuously up to date, and effortless to use.”, says Amy.

Why Google is smarter inside Renault 4

Google Maps

You already know your way around Google Maps. In Renault 4, there’s nothing new to figure out. Built into the drive through openR link, it’s the same technology you know and love. Only now, it can do a whole lot more.

Real-time traffic updates intelligently optimise your route, so you get there faster. And with Renault 4’s route planner building charging stops into your journey, your car’s charge is always part of the equation.

Google Assistant

You don’t even have to use your hands. With Google Assistant, you can make things happen with the power of your voice. Want to adjust the temperature or find the nearest charging station? Just ask Google. Craving a drive-through? It’ll search for one along the way.

Google Play

The fun doesn’t stop there. With Google Play, apps like Spotify come along for the ride. And when you’re parked, streaming platforms like Amazon Prime are just a touch away.

reno, your AI avatar

At this stage, you're probably thinking the tech couldn't get any more intuitive. Well, it gets even better. reno is your very own personal assistant, an AI avatar that learns everything about your driving style over time.

And that’s really the point. Renault’s tech is designed to get to know you, not the other way around.

The little things, just how you like them

Eco Mode or Comfort? Lane centring on or off? Sensor beeps turned up or down?

Everyone has their own set-up, and the openR link system remembers yours.

What you see behind the wheel. Lighting to match your mood. Your chosen driving mode. Driver assistance set your way. Every drive is shaped by you, for you.

When you’re signed into your Google account, openR link can even suggest routes based on your habits, favourite addresses, and navigation history.

“Everyone will have their own preferences on how they want to drive the car. You can make it personal to you.”

It even thinks about the air you breathe

City traffic? Hay fever? Windows firmly up? Why stop there? Purify the air while you’re at it with Renault 4’s built-in air purifier, designed to help maintain air quality inside the cabin.

What’s more, Renault’s connected services keep you in sync with your Renault 4 long after your drive. Remotely schedule your charging, pre-condition your cabin, and locate your car, all from the My Renault app. As Amy puts it, “You can do it sat on the sofa.”

Ready to go electric?

The best EVs make you feel at home on the road. That’s what Renault 4’s openR link is all about: no new learning curve, just smoother journeys and smart tech that’s one step ahead.

Renault makes the switch even easier with at-home charging solutions and flexible finance options. Because when your car does this much of the thinking, there’s no room to think twice.

Renault’s tech is built to feel second nature, and behind the wheel of Renault 4, everything else does too.
