Renault’s new electric cars: smarter and even more affordable

Renault's new electric cars

Electric vehicles have become part of everyday life on Britain’s roads, but for many car buyers the upfront cost has been a stumbling block. Now, Renault is changing that, spearheading a new generation of affordable electric cars that offer not only lower prices but also the kind of technology and range once reserved for far more expensive models.

For drivers who have been waiting for EVs to become more affordable, the latest Renault line-up could be the turning point. From the reborn Renault 5 to the versatile Renault 4 and family-friendly Scenic, these models are designed to make the switch to electric easier and more appealing than ever before.

And there’s never been a better time to take advantage of low electric car prices thanks to the government’s Electric Car Grant, offering an additional £1,500 off every model in the Renault electric car range, with Renault retailers taking care of all the paperwork for you.

With prices coming down, more electric car deals than ever, and the government rolling out fresh EV grants across the UK, there’s a strong case for buying right now. Add to that Renault’s cutting-edge electric lineup, and suddenly, making the switch feels a lot more doable – especially if you’re driving in or around cities like London, where the Congestion Charge and Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is tightening its grip.

A new era of affordable EV cars

When the first wave of EVs arrived in the UK, they came with a premium price tag. While running costs were low, initial affordability was out of reach for many households. But the landscape is changing fast. Manufacturers like Renault are now able to deliver EVs at far more accessible price points.

Renault has long been a leader in mainstream electrification, from the pioneering Zoe to the current Megane E-Tech Electric. Now, the brand is set to redefine what the most affordable electric cars UK drivers can buy.

The spotlight is firmly on the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric – a modern take on the iconic hatchback. With striking retro-inspired design, compact dimensions for city driving, and a projected range of up to 252 miles1, the 5 brings together everyday usability with accessible pricing.

Alongside it, the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric offers SUV styling in a family-friendly package, while Scenic E-Tech focuses on practicality, long-distance comfort and efficiency. Together, these cars demonstrate Renault’s strategy of making EVs affordable without cutting corners.

EV range

Battery efficiency and extended range

Battery technology has always been central to the conversation around EVs, particularly when it comes to price and practicality. Renault’s latest generation of EVs optimise range without resorting to oversized, heavy packs.

Take the Renault 5, for instance. With a choice of battery sizes, it caters to both urban drivers looking for something compact and affordable, as well as those who need extra miles for longer journeys. Its projected 252-mile range1 puts it in direct competition with far pricier models, proving that budget-friendly no longer means compromised.

Charging has also been made simpler and smarter. Mobilize offers a variety of charging solutions, including rapid charging that can be charged from 15% to 80% in half an hour, plus seamless integration with home wallboxes and smart tariffs.

Smart technology made standard

One of the biggest changes with affordable EVs is how much technology now comes as standard. Renault is equipping its latest models with features that once belonged only to premium brands.

The Renault 5 E-Tech Electric, Renault 4 E-Tech Electric and Scenic E-Tech Electric all include advanced infotainment systems powered by Renault’s openR Link2, complete with Google integration3. That means drivers can access familiar apps such as Google Maps, Google Assistant and the Google Play Store directly through the car’s intuitive touchscreen display.

Safety tech is also front and centre. Renault’s latest models feature a suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)4, including adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist and automatic emergency braking. These features can help make driving both safer and more relaxing. In short, even the most affordable Renault EVs don’t skimp on the features modern drivers now expect.

Affordability and total cost of ownership

For cost-conscious buyers, the key question remains: how much will it all cost? Renault has made affordability a cornerstone of its electric strategy, offering competitive finance options such as Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) on its electric models.

The total cost of ownership (TCO) also tilts in favour of EVs. Electricity remains significantly cheaper per mile than petrol or diesel, particularly when using smart home tariffs. Maintenance costs are lower too, with fewer moving parts to service compared to internal combustion engines.

As well as the government’s new Electric Car Grant, other incentives remain, from home charging grants to zero Vehicle Excise Duty for EVs and exemptions from London’s Congestion Charge. Company car drivers benefit from very low Benefit-in-Kind (BIK) tax rates, making affordable EVs an especially attractive option for fleets.

Why is now the right time to switch?

The market for affordable electric cars in the UK is changing rapidly, with more choice and better value than ever before. Renault’s latest range is timed perfectly to capture buyers who may have been sitting on the fence.

The charging infrastructure has also improved significantly. According to the latest figures, there are now more than 80,000 public charging points across the UK, including thousands of rapid chargers. Combined with Mobilize’s home charging partnership with Octopus this removes one of the final barriers for would-be EV drivers.

Competitors are also joining the affordable EV race, but Renault’s blend of heritage, design flair and proven electric know-how sets it apart. The Renault 5, in particular, is already a standout choice in the most affordable electric cars market.

Renault’s growing electric line-up

Beyond the headline-grabbing Renault 5 and Renault 4, the French brand is steadily building a full portfolio of EVs. The Megane E-Tech Electric offers a more premium family hatchback, while the Scenic delivers SUV comfort and versatility with zero exhaust pipe emissions.

With offers available across the range there’s never been a wider choice of Renault EVs tailored to different budgets and lifestyles.
