How do hybrids switch between driving modes?
The vehicle automatically switches between electric, hybrid, and internal combustion modes using an onboard electronic system combined with a multimode transmission specifically developed for hybrid technology.
This system continuously analyses several criteria to ensure the best balance between performance and power consumption, including:
- the pressure applied to the accelerator pedal
- the road type
- the battery charge level
Specifically, during start-up, steady-state cruising, and moderate acceleration phases, the electric motor is used primarily. When the accelerator is pressed hard, on roads that require more power (such as an uphill slope), or if the battery is not sufficiently charged, the internal combustion engine takes over, either on its own or in conjunction with the electric motor.
Mode and gear changes are fully automatic and exceptionally smooth, with higher gears already preselected for quick engagement. You don't have to worry about a thing: everything is automatically optimised for your powertrain, so you can fully enjoy your drive.
Please note: on E-Tech hyper hybrid models, it is also possible to switch temporarily to 100% electric mode.
